Featured Seattle Sushi Restaurant

http://www.urbanspoon.com/w/s/YV/2zhGp4rviSmmH0-130.jpgI recently had a chance to visit Hana Restaurant in Seattle. Hana has a very low-key vibe on top of Capitol Hill on Broadway. The place was packed on a freezing Tuesday night in February. I sat at the sushi bar and got the check list from the sushi chef. They had a wide ranging menu from rolls to nigri. I asked for what was not on the menu that was fresh. The sushi chef reccomended Oysters to Geoduck (Seattle natives know Geoduck). I had a piece of both! Perfect! The price was based on per piece and was made by the chef each time (not a conveyer belt). I will definitly go back to Hana. For more information visit the link below.

Updated Review of Ototo in Queen Anne

Posted on May 12 2009 at 03:30 PM

http://www.bestseattlesushi.com/img/upload/SushiRestaurant.jpgOtoto's Sushi is the literally the best sushi in Seattle! Others may pretend to be or even play the part, however, when it comes down to it the best and freshest is in Upper Queen Anne and dont let me get started on the style. Top to bottom Otto's has a modern layout with an authentic feel, unparraled anywhere else in Seattle. My only question is where I would rank it in the world ;)

New Fave!

The only other Seattle Sushi Restaurant I enjoy is Ototo. The portions are small but very fresh. Forget the crowds in Belltown; the location on top of Queen Anne is convenient. I will report on the menu soon...

What to Look for in a Sushi Spot?

People! Especially a Japanese crowd. Typically a sushi place that has great sushi attracts Japanese eaters which reminds them of sushi restaurants at home.

The sushi restaurant should serve many types of sushi including maki, nigiri, sashimi, and chirashi. This means the sushi chef is skilled beyond the typical California roll. Also by offering raw fish this shows the restaurant is confident in the quality of fish.

Quick Points:

1) Miso soup is key! You will know good miso by not too much saltiness, full of flavor, and quality ingredients.

2) Well known sushi chef. Reputation is a must.

3) Welcoming atmosphere. Talk to the sushi chef, establish a re pour.
